The Gilbert House Children's Museum is a private nonprofit 501(c)(3) children's museum connected to downtown Salem's Riverfront Park. Founded in 1989, Gilbert House Children's Museum provides innovative and stimulating educational experiences which spark children's natural curiosity. Gilbert, an extraordinary scholar, inventor, Olympic athlete and gold medalist, entrepreneur, and magician. An advocate of learning through play, Gilbert was the proud inventor of the Erector Set, the inspiration for our giant outdoor Erector Set, the highlight of our 20,000 ft² Outdoor Discovery Area. Because our exhibits are housed in three unique historical houses, the first level of each house is accessible by wheelchair, which includes about half the exhibits. The Outdoor Discovery Area is accessible all the way up to the Erector Set climbing tower.

Gilbert House participates in the ASTC Travel Passport program and offers free general admission to members from other ASTC museums. Although ASTC Travel Passport restrictions exclude museums within 90 miles of Gilbert House Children’s Museum, we have special agreements so all Oregon ASTC museums are available for our members. You will be asked for your membership card and ID prior to admission. Service Animals -Gilbert House Children's Museum complies with all ADA requirements and accepts service animals in the museum as defined by the ADA.

Mesa firefighters say the fire started with either an RV or a shed. Wind quickly spread to two houses which are a complete loss. Flames spread to a third home but firefighters were able to save most of the structure.

MESA, AZ — Multiple houses have been destroyed after a fire sparked in Mesa near Gilbert and Brown roads. In the event of inclement weather, the Museum may close the Outdoor Discovery Center or close completely. Inclement weather closures will be posted on the Museum's homepage. Fresh vegetables and dairy products, homemade pickles and jams, and fresh bread were always a staple. Susan creates healthy, hearty meals and classic desserts with these memories to share with you.

You will find a limited selection of snacks and beverages available for purchase in our gift shop. For a more substantial meal, we have a number of wonderful restaurants, eateries, and coffee shops located just a short walk or drive away in Salem's Historic Downtown. Be sure to keep your wristband on for same day re-entry. There is free parking under the bridge in front of the Museum.
I love how accommodating they were, I was nervous taking them but my family and I were starving. I was blown away by the way they treated my babies and us... Susan also uses all-natural buffalo meat straight from her sister's ranch in South Dakota. Surprisingly to most, buffalo meat is lower in calories, fat, and cholesterol than chicken or fish and is higher in protein than beef.
The city-metered parking lot and permit lot marked by signs are monitored by the city and available at no cost during weekends and legal holidays. Riverfront Park, just down the street from us, has many events throughout the spring and summer and our parking will occasionally be impacted due to proximity. Please refer to the City of Salem's website for more information about available free parking in the downtown area. To enter and explore the museum, adults must have a child with them.
The Gilbert House Restaurant, located in the heart of Gilbert, Arizona, has been owned and operated by Susan Wright and her family for the past 18 years. Specializing in classic American cuisine, Susan prides herself in using the freshest of ingredients. Her high standards came from growing up on a South Dakota Dairy farm where she learned from her mother and grandmother.
